Game review

Guild Wars is a massive international online company that started in April 2005 by ArenaNet and NCsoft. Their intensive fictional fantasy role play game is a mix of a player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) world.
The game offers a wide range of classes from full metal plated warriors to fire ball crazed wizards but lacks the choice of races as you are only limited to humans. The games concept art is not one to be over looked as the game really concentrates on its life like fantasy landscapes and environments with vast colours and sound effects giving it an enjoyable life like feel.
Running across extremely graphic landscapes to intense dungeons the game offers a very fantasy like experience and the wanting to explore what’s around the next corner. The level limit is 20 and not that hard to reach although level of your avatar is not the main goal like most other online games. Guild Wars is based on skill building and has a very balanced progression of your character .The skill system is based around which skill works best with other skills, as your main class can take a second profession of any other class making the choices during a battle more challenging. The interface lets you equip up to eight skills only, which makes choice of skills very important as once you enter a new dungeon or zone you can not change yours skills. Interface layout is very simple with a mini-map, group list, health experience and energy bar. Control of your avatar is mainly click and kill, with the exception of some missions of carrying objects from one objective to another.
The enemy AI is very basic although at higher end game AI content can be very tactical and challenging. Character creation consists of equipping your avatar with armour and weapons. Creating new armour consists off colleting the correct materials and handing them in to a non-player character (NPC) called an armourer, once made can be customized with different coloured dyes, whilst weapons can be either made in the same way or picked up from enemies.

Game play can be played with a group of players or solo. Playing solo doesn’t stop you from entering group designed dungeons as you can add NPC’s to fight along side you which have basic AI and you can control them but with a limited control. Most online games make you have to find others players to group up and try high end content of the game ,whilst Guild Wars let you at least try every part of the game with the use of adding extra NPC’s that you control which lets you try different tactics on your own if no one is around to group. Throughout the game play you can create a guild and become a guild leader and coordinate group events and PVP battles against other guilds. It offers a range of different online experiences with some aspects which could be left out like some zones and towns could be reduced in size to save running around and getting lost along with NPC’s that don’t serve any purpose but to get in the way of your avatar’s pathing.
